In Vitro: α-Eleostearic acid (0-40 µM; 24 h) inhibits the growth of some cancer ａnd fibroblast cell lines, including those of HL60 leukemia ａnd HT29 colon carcinoma.
α-Eleostearic acid (20 µM; 6 h) induced cellular ａnd nuclear fragmentation, ａnd nucleosomal DNA fragmentation typical of apoptosis in HL60 leukemia cells.
α-Eleostearic acid (0.01-100 µM; 72 h) triggers death of MDA-MB-231 cells ａnd this death was suppressed by Fer-1, Deferoxamine, ａnd vitamin E.

In Vivo: α-Eleostearic acid (0.5% of total lipid given; p.o.) inhibits Sodium Arsenite-induced oxidative stress, including reversal of antioxidant enzyme activity ａnd reduction of lipid peroxidation levels.
Oral administration of tung oil, naturally rich inα-Eleostearic acid, to mice limits tumor growth ａnd metastasis in an aggressive TNBC orthotopic xenograft model.
