The mass flow controllers are now available in a clamp variant. This makes them ideal for areas of application with stringent hygiene requirements。

Installing fluid measuring and/or control devices always means interfering with a closed pipeline, thus introducing a potential vulnerability. However, biotech applications in particular need reliable and safe pipe connections, often subject to certain hygiene requirements. But how can such connections be implemented while also allowing for quick and easy equipment replacement in the event of a malfunction or service?

Clamp connection: proven connection technology for meeting biotech requirements

Clamp connections are a reliable and safe way to connect measuring and control devices to pipelines. When correctly installed, they are sealed and leak-free without the need for additional seal materials such as Teflon tape. Furthermore, they have no dead spaces, making them particularly suitable for hygienic applications where it is essential to avoid residue in the pipelines.

On the exterior, too, clamp connections made of stainless steel are also easy to clean, making them particularly suitable for the installation of mass flow controllers (MFCs) directly in the system, without the need for a control cabinet. For these reasons, they have a long history of use in biotech applications, as well as in the food industry, chemical industry, and pharmaceutical industry.

The clamp connections of our new MFCs comply with the ASME BPE standard and are available for all flow ranges.

Type 8743 and Type 8744 serve both as a mass flow controller (MFC) with a proportional valve and a mass flow meter (MFM).

Both types rely on a media-separated capillary sensor made of 316L/1.4404 stainless steel with a nominal flow rate (QNom) ranging from 0.01 lN/min to 100 lN/min (nitrogen).

Capillary sensors use a non-contact measuring principle. The sensor components themselves have no direct contact with the gas. This makes Type 8743 and Type 8744 particularly chemically resistant to many aggressive gases.

由于传感器通道（即毛细管）内呈现层流状态，传感器的特性曲线（输出信号与体积流量的关系）呈近乎线性的特征。这使得利用标定气体与实际工作气体之间的换算系数进行换算成为可能。

No real-gas calibration necessary: can be deployed flexibly and in a variety of applications

Due to the laminar flow conditions in the sensor channel (=capillary), the sensor characteristics (output signal vs volume flow rate) behave almost linearly. This allows conversion factors between the calibration gas and the operating gas to be used.

The devices can therefore also be used for gas mixtures or special gases, such as ammonia (NH3) or sulphur dioxide (SO2), since the calibration is performed with nitrogen.

The gas conversion factors can be amended at any time by the client on site, either via the Bürkert Communicator or via the client’s plant control system.

As a result of digitization, the demand for automated machines and plants with intelligent field devices is increasing. Industrial Ethernet often forms the basis for a consistent and cross-departmental network infrastructure. For example, the gas flow should be measured and regulated fully automatically while transferring data via Industrial Ethernet.

So far, however, the connection of the mass flow meters (MFM) and mass flow controllers (MFC) to Industrial Ethernet was only possible with signal converters, such as the ME43 fieldbus gateway.
