Background Information: BMPs （bone morphogenetic proteins） belong to the TGF-β superfamily of structurally related signaling proteins. As implied by their name, BMPs promote ａnd regulate bone development, growth, remodeling ａnd repair, in both prenatal development ａnd postnatal growth of eye, heart, kidney, skin, ａnd other tissues. In addition to its osteogenic activity, BMP-2 also plays an important role in cardiac morphogenesis. BMP-2 is expressed in a variety of tissues such as lung, spleen, brain, liver, prostate ovary, ａnd small intestine. Recombinant human BMP-2 is a 26 kDa homodimeric protein consisting of two 115 amino acid polypeptide chains
