旋流沉砂池除砂机是根据离心沉降和密度差的原理，当水流在一定的压力下，从除砂器进口以切向进入设备后，产生强烈的旋转运动，由于砂水密度不同，在离心力、向心浮力、流体曳力的作用下因受力不同，从而使密度低的清水上升，由溢流口排出，密度大的砂由底部排砂口排出，从而达到除砂的目的。在一定范围和条件下，除砂器进水压力越大，除砂率越高，并可多台并联使用。旋流沉砂池除砂机主要利用机械叶轮的旋转，控制进入水流的流速与流态，使砂在离心力与重力的作用下，沿池壁呈螺旋线加速沉降，同时有机物在水流的作用下，随水流漂走，沉入池底的砂经空气提升或泵提升后，与少量污水进入砂水分离器中进行分离后排出，清洗水回流至格栅井，从而达到除砂的目的。
