Allen-Bradley"s FLEX™ I/O family has been expanded to include two new Diagnostic Digital modules: 1794-OB16D and 1794-IB16D. The FLEX diagnostic digital modules allow the control system user to identify conditions which may result in system failure. The modules can detect open wire, short circuit and reverse polarity of external power. The identification of these faults can reduce start-up time and minimize time to find and fix problems.

When a fault is detected, the module turns on the module fault LED, the corresponding channel"s red LED and sets the corresponding module error bit (open wire, short circuit, or reverse power bit). The reporting function provides the diagnostic results as bits to a controller for distribution to the application program, Human Machine Interface (HMI) terminals, and other annunciator media (printers, etc). The 1794-IB16D is compatible with only 1794-TB32 and -TB32S terminal bases. The 1794-OB16D is compatible with 1794-TB3 and -TB3S terminal bases.
