UV irradiation of working area prior to use blocks replication of contaminating DNA sequences by causing adjacent pyrimidines to undergo dimerization. Workstation protects against airborne or cross-contamination by limiting exposure of experimental setup to open lab environment.

The 12-hour count-down timer with time-hold position （supplied with the UV germicidal lamp） conveniently controls PCR workstation decontamination. To decontaminate, the user simply UV-irradiates the work area with doors closed prior to PCR procedure ａnd just after use. Dual UV bulb option decreases the possibility of PCR amplification of contaminating DNA by delivering twice the intensity of UV light ａnd irradiating what otherwise might be shadowed areas.
