UV irradiation of working area prior to use blocks replication of contaminating DNA sequences by causing adjacent pyrimidines to undergo dimerization. Workstation protects against airborne or cross-contamination by limiting exposure of experimental setup to open lab environment.

The 12-hour count-down timer with time-hold position （supplied with the UV germicidal lamp） conveniently controls PCR workstation decontamination. To decontaminate, the user simply UV-irradiates the work area with doors closed prior to PCR procedure ａnd just after use.
