电机在使用过程中由于损耗的存在，使温度不断升高，如不能很好地对其进行冷却，会影响电机使用寿命。为了正常使用，冷却尤其重要。
电机的冷却方式，主分别为自然冷却、水冷和油冷，不同的冷却方式，其功用是不一样的。
1、水冷
水冷和油冷类似，只是它采用水来作为冷却介质。
水冷和油冷它们的优点：冷却效果好、噪声小；缺点也很明显：需要门的冷却部件、结构复杂、维修困难等。
2、油冷
“油冷”顾名思义就是利用冷却油来冷却电机。在有些电机的外表面上有热交换器，利用冷却油循环流动带走电机热量。
3、自然冷却
自然冷却就是电机不利用其他元件（比如风扇等），仅通过空气对流和辐射冷却的方式。小功率电机电流小、发热小，所以只有小功率电机才采用自然冷却的方式。
