以往工业生产中用的冷水机，对温度精度的要求并不高，大多在0.5-1度就能正常运行满足日常生产需要。
而精密冷水机不同，在实验室环境下，精密冷水机可提供精准的温控，比如0.1度~0.5度左右。这个精度在一些特殊生产工艺如：测试、精密材料检测、精密仪器冷却水系统等，需要保证循环冷却水进水恒温或高精度，以便数据或产品性能稳定。
精密冷水机不仅对温度的要求高，同时在冷却水流量、水压、水质等状况也有不少要求。比如光学组件、精密磁场对流量的波动干涉敏感，需要精准控制水流量。
还有一些精密设备，对压力要求平稳，部分部件不能承受过高压力和启动压力冲击，这些对精密冷水机都是有要求的，青金制冷精密冷水机研发设计，也是针对此进行的。
