螺旋式砂水分离器适用于污水处理厂（站）的沉砂池，是污水处理中处理砂水混合液的设备。砂水混合液从分离器一端顶部输入水箱，混合液中类似于砂粒等比重较大的杂质沉积于槽形底部，在螺旋叶片的推动下。砂粒沿斜置的U型槽底提升，离开液面后继续推移一段距离，在砂粒充分脱水后经排砂口卸至盛砂桶，而与砂分离的水则从溢流口排出，达到砂水分离的目的。另外，砂水分离器进水口处还可设置一圆筒式旋流预分离器，污水沿圆筒切线方向进入涡流使砂粒下沉进入螺旋分离器，溢流液回沉砂池或格栅井，起到预沉砂及调节水量的作用,提高砂水分离器的分离效果。

另外，无轴螺旋砂水分离器进水口处还可设置一圆筒式旋流预分离器，污水沿圆筒切线方向进入涡流使砂粒沉下进入螺旋分离器，溢流液回沉砂池或格栅井，起到预沉砂及调节水量的作用无轴螺旋砂水分离器的分离效果。无轴螺旋砂水分离器在安装使用时注意，安装时用膨胀螺栓固定牢固，无轴螺旋砂水分离器的安装角度误差为±1度。
